Pastor Al grew up in rural eastern North Carolina.  He graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1982.  Prior to entering pastoral ministry he served in various administrative positions at North Carolina Wesleyan College including Dean of Students, Director of Financial Aid and Placement, and Soccer, Baseball, and Track Coach.

Pastor Al and his wife, Susan, came to HUMC in June, 2004.  They began serving in pastoral ministry in 1978.  They have three grown sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and two fantastic grandchildren.
